And commit to a whole day of doing… nothing.Do Nothing Day is a free worldwide movement for anyone who does too damn much. Sign up now to get your #DoNothingDay (un)planner.

Why This Matters

Do Nothing Day was created because women do too. freaking. much.

At work, at home and everywhere in between. Even our spare time is devoted to doing a good job of self-care and trying to deepen our friendships and invest in our romantic relationships and run our errands and read all the books we’re supposed to be reading and catch up on politics and water our house plants and practice meditation and spend time in nature and…

{What Do Nothing Day is Not}

Do Nothing Day is NOT about reading Lean In and telling yourself it’s fun, or using your Sunday to organize your pantry. I’m not talking about a long brunch where you lend an ear to a friend in need. Or taking a long lunch to squeeze in a barre class.

I’m talking about DOING NOTHING.

All DAY.

My goal is no longer to get more done, but rather to have less to do.

The 3 Rules

1. You cannot have a plan or a to-do list

2. You cannot “produce,” “deliver” or “achieve” anything (keep that in mind if you’re tempted to touch your dishwasher or laptop)

3. You must ONLY do what brings you joy, peace, curiosity or contentment

Not sure if Do Nothing Day is for you?

Don't worry! I’m not talking about sitting in an empty room in silence. I’m talking about BEING! If you want to read, read! If you want to sleep, sleep! There are no expectations. No way to get it “right” or “wrong.” The only rule is that you can’t do anything you don’t want to do. No checking emails to get a head start on the week. No checking the mail (unless you’re waiting for a fun package). No unloading the dishwasher “real quick” or trying to fit in a workout because you “should.”

This is the chance to do ONLY and EXACTLY what you want to do. Which might feel scary. Or uncomfortable.

It might make you feel guilty. Or like you’re “wasting” time. And that’s the whole point.

Who is Do Nothing Day for?

It’s for anyone who can’t live without their to-do list. It’s for entrepreneurs and freelancers. It’s for SAH moms. It’s for writers and designers and artists. It’s for women with corporate careers. It’s for grad students and high school students and yoga students. It’s for activists and dog walkers and engineers

The bottom line is that it’s 100% free and open to anyone (yes, even dudes!) who wants to spend a day BEING instead of DOING.

Beauty, my first girlfriend said to me, is that inner quality often associated with great amounts of leisure time.
